ISWAP plans attacks Ondo Kogi DSS warning
The Department of State Services (DSS) has warned that Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) is planning fresh, coordinated attacks on communities in Ondo and Kogi states. The warning was communicated to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies as part of routine intelligence sharing aimed at preventing potential attacks.
According to the DSS alert, the plot involves movements by ISWAP operatives toward specific communities in both states and could include ambushes and other violent attacks. Security sources say the memo urged increased patrols, heightened checkpoints and closer collaboration between federal and state security forces.
State governments and local authorities responded by urging calm while confirming that security agencies had been placed on alert. The Ondo state government described the leaked intelligence as part of routine threat assessments and said it was working with the security agencies to protect lives and property. Officials asked residents to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity to the nearest security post.
Security analysts say ISWAP’s operational reach beyond the northeast has grown in recent years, and that the group uses small, mobile units to carry out hit-and-run attacks in new areas. Analysts also caution that timely intelligence sharing and joint operations are essential to prevent loss of life and disruption to local communities.
Residents in border communities and along major routes in the affected states have been advised to limit unnecessary travel, avoid isolated locations and cooperate with security personnel. The DSS and military commands said they would intensify patrols and conduct targeted operations to preempt any planned strikes. Authorities reiterated that the public should report credible information to official security channels.
