FCT police DPO redeployment assault
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command (FCT Command) has announced that the Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ushafa division following the circulation of a video showing the officer physically assaulting a young man. The incident reportedly took place on October 22, 2025, and the video went viral on social media platforms, prompting public outcry.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson,
Josephine Adeh, the officer’s conduct — seen slapping the man in the video — “falls short of the high standards of discipline, civility, and professionalism expected of police officers”. The Commissioner condemned the behaviour and emphasised that such misconduct would not be tolerated under his leadership. The officer has been redeployed back to command headquarters pending further investigation.
This action is part of the FCT Command’s broader attempt to restore public confidence and accountability in policing within the territory. The Command reiterated the need for officers to conduct themselves with respect and for all citizens to engage law enforcement professionals in a cooperative and lawful manner. The investigation is ongoing as the Command seeks to determine the full circumstances surrounding the assault.
