Popular Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa has opened up about the intense scrutiny she faced after becoming a mother and the emotional toll of online criticism in what she described as “being policed” for her breastfeeding choices.

Toke, who announced the birth of her daughter in August 2025, revealed during a Snapchat and social-media Q&A session that her breast-milk supply stopped just three weeks after giving birth. She explained that despite efforts such as drinking traditional remedies like pap and tea the supply did not improve and the pressure heavily impacted her mental health.

In her statement she addressed what she described as the “breastfeeding police” members of the public and social-media users who questioned her every motherhood decision. When a fan asked why she was no longer breastfeeding, Toke replied candidly: “Because my breast-milk output stopped after three weeks. Any other question?”

She emphasised that motherhood and public life had changed her priorities, and that her decision to stop breastfeeding was one she made for her physical and emotional well-being. Toke’s transparent sharing has resonated with many mothers who feel judged or unsupported online.
