Marvin Brown dies aged 42 after cancer battle

Former professional footballer Marvin Brown has died at the age of 42 following a battle with a rare and aggressive form of bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma).

Brown began his journey in football at an early age, joining the youth ranks of Bristol City when he was eight years old. He made history in September 1999 by debuting for the first team at just 16 years and 71 days, becoming the club’s youngest ever player. During his playing career, he also represented England at Under-16 and Under-17 levels.

After leaving Bristol City in 2004, Brown played for several clubs including Forest Green Rovers, Tamworth, Yeovil Town, Weston-super-Mare and Truro City, before retiring from playing in 2012.

Following his playing career, Brown remained involved in football as a coach. He founded a football development company called Total Pro Soccer and achieved a UEFA A coaching licence, dedicating himself to mentoring young players.

His health struggles had been ongoing. Prior to the cancer diagnosis, Brown dealt with ulcerative colitis, chronic liver conditions and had earlier been treated for colon cancer in 2022. In May 2025, he was diagnosed with terminal bile duct cancer and was receiving end-of-life care.

Clubs, former teammates and fans have expressed deep sadness at his passing, remembering him not only for his footballing talent but also for his impact as a coach and mentor in his community.
