Counterfeit Cialis 20 mg tablets in Nigeria alert
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert about the circulation of counterfeit Cialis 20 mg tablets in Nigeria.
According to the alert, the counterfeit product was discovered during routine market surveillance in Abuja and is being sold openly at an average price of around ₦8,000 for a pack, far below the genuine product’s retail price of approximately ₦55,000 per pack. The alert provides details showing that the fake version bore a different registration number (NRN) and inconsistent batch and manufacturing/expiry dates compared to the authentic version.
NAFDAC has directed its zonal directors and state coordinators to intensify surveillance and remove the counterfeit product from circulation across the country. Distributors, retailers, healthcare professionals and consumers have all been urged to obtain medicines only from licensed, authorised suppliers and to check for authenticity and correct packaging.
The agency stressed that using counterfeit medications poses serious health risks because their safety, quality and efficacy cannot be guaranteed. Patients who have purchased suspicious products are encouraged to stop use and report the products or any adverse reactions to NAFDAC via its toll-free line or Med-Safety app.
