Suspect arrested for murders of Mamelodi cousins

A 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of two young cousins in Mamelodi East township of Pretoria, South Africa.

The victims, 22-year-old Tshiamo Moramaga and 21-year-old Baleseng Moramaga, were found on the side of a road in Extension 17 with gunshot wounds to the head on 26 October 2025. A third young woman was also shot and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The suspect was apprehended at a filling station in Pretoria after a joint operation involving the Gauteng Serious and Violent Crime Unit, Provincial Crime Intelligence, and Mamelodi East detectives. He faces two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

The case has prompted strong condemnation from civil society and government agencies, highlighting ongoing concerns over gender-based violence and femicide in South Africa.
