Police arrest 13 after killing in Edo community

The police in Edo State have arrested thirteen people in connection with a violent clash that erupted following the killing of a 23-year-old man in a local community. The tragic incident, which occurred earlier this week, sparked outrage among residents and led to a series of retaliatory attacks that left several people injured and properties destroyed.

According to police reports, the unrest began when news spread about the death of the young man, who was allegedly attacked by a rival group during a dispute. The confrontation quickly escalated as youths from both sides took to the streets, resulting in widespread violence before security forces intervened.

State police spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Thursday. He said that thirteen suspects had been taken into custody, while several dangerous weapons, including machetes and clubs, were recovered from the scene. He added that normalcy had been restored in the affected area following the deployment of additional security personnel.

Nwabuzor assured residents that the police would continue investigations to identify all individuals involved in the killing and subsequent unrest. He also warned against further acts of violence, urging community leaders to assist in maintaining peace and providing useful information to aid the investigation.

Residents have called for justice over the murder, expressing concerns about rising insecurity and youth violence in the state. Community elders have appealed to both sides to remain calm while the police conclude their investigation and bring those responsible to justice.
