Rust gun supplier sues Alec Baldwin

The weapons supplier for the film Rust has filed a lawsuit against actor Alec Baldwin and several others involved in the production, alleging that they defamed him and wrongly portrayed him as responsible for the fatal on-set shooting in 2021. The tragic incident, which claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, continues to generate legal fallout years after it shocked Hollywood.

According to court documents, Seth Kenney, the owner of PDQ Arm & Prop LLC, filed the suit in Los Angeles County, claiming that Baldwin and members of the film’s production team made false statements that damaged his reputation and business. Kenney argued that public comments made by Baldwin and his representatives implied he had supplied live ammunition to the set, a claim he insists is untrue.

The complaint accuses the defendants of defamation, negligence, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Kenney’s attorneys said the continuous media attention and misrepresentation have caused severe harm to his livelihood, leaving him ostracized within the film industry.

The lawsuit adds to the long list of legal battles surrounding Rust, where Baldwin himself faces ongoing legal scrutiny over his handling of the gun that discharged the fatal shot. Prosecutors in New Mexico have pursued multiple cases tied to the shooting, including charges against the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was earlier convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

Baldwin has consistently maintained that he did not pull the trigger and that the weapon malfunctioned. His legal team has yet to comment on the latest lawsuit. The ongoing controversy continues to fuel debate over firearm safety protocols and accountability on movie sets.
