cement truck crushes minor to death in Ogun
A tragic road accident occurred on Sunday, November 2, 2025, along the Ilaro-Ibese Expressway in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria. The incident involved a cement truck bearing number plate MDB 249 XA, and an unregistered motorcycle carrying four passengers.
Eyewitness accounts and official reports indicate that the motorcycle rider lost control due to a bad section of the road, causing the female minor to fall and subsequently be crushed under the tyre of the cement truck. The accident occurred at about 5:40 pm (16:40hrs).
As a result of the collision, the minor died on the scene. Three adults on the motorcycle were injured and taken to the Ilaro General Hospital for treatment.
According to the spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, tensions mounted after the crash when several motorcyclists in the area began creating a disturbance. Security forces including TRACE, the police, the local security outfit Amotekun Corps, and the army quickly intervened and restored order. The truck involved was impounded at the Ilaro Police Station.
This incident underscores ongoing concerns about road safety, especially in areas where road conditions are poor and vehicles carry extra passengers. The fact that the motorcycle was overloaded and unregistered further complicates the situation, and it highlights the need for stricter adherence to safety regulations for both riders and heavy vehicles.
