A tragic incident occurred in Kano State on Wednesday morning, when two children drowned in separate wells within the state.
According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, the first victim was a six-year-old boy named Ahmad Abdurashid, who drowned in a well at Dandishe Tsamiyar Goodluck area of Dala Local Government Area. The call was received at about 10:02 a.m., and despite the rescue team’s swift response, the boy was brought out lifeless and handed over to his father.
The second incident involved an eight-year-old girl, who drowned in a well in Kashirmo Village near Sarkakiya in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area. A distress call was made at approximately 08:53 a.m., and although the rescue team arrived promptly, the girl was later confirmed dead.
The Fire Service spokesman noted that the exact causes of both incidents are still under investigation. He urged residents to ensure that all wells are properly covered and to avoid digging open wells along roadsides or in areas accessible to children, especially in more vulnerable rural communities.
