Train crushes tricycle rider passenger Plateau
A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday at the Phototek Junction in the Abattoir community of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, when a moving train travelling from Bukuru to Jos struck a commercial tricycle (“keke NAPEP”) at a level crossing.
The crash killed the tricycle rider and one of his passengers instantly. Two other passengers were injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Eyewitnesses said the train sounded its horn repeatedly and a guard at the crossing flagged the vehicle to wait, but the tricycle driver attempted to beat the train across the tracks and failed.
The state Transport Commissioner, Davou Gyang, described the incident as a painful and avoidable loss and urged all road users, especially tricycle operators, to obey safety signs and rules at railway crossings.
