Kogi bandits kill abducted elderly woman

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have shot dead an elderly woman, identified as Mrs Elizabeth Olorunshola, after abducting her from her home in Ilafin-Isanlu, in the Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State. The attack occurred on Saturday night, November 8, 2025.

According to community sources, the bandits intercepted Mrs Olorunshola along the Ilafin-Isanlu road, kidnapped her and at least one other person, and forced them into the forest toward the criminals’ hideout. When the abductors realised that Mrs Olorunshola was physically unable to keep up with the pace required through the forest, they reportedly shot her dead on the spot.

Her lifeless body and that of a wounded male victim were found in the bush the following day. The incident caused widespread shock in the community, with many residents describing a climate of fear and insecurity. Over the weekend, hundreds of residents took to the streets in protest, blocking roads and setting tyres ablaze to demand stronger security measures from the state and federal authorities.

Local government officials expressed condolences and the chairman of the local council pledged to work with security agencies to restore calm and bring the perpetrators to justice. At the same time, restrictions were placed on forest access and farming activities in several neighbouring communities to curb bandit movement and hideouts.
