Bishop Abioye wife HIV diagnosis reaction
Bishop David Abioye of the Living Word Conquerors Global Assembly has shared a personal and emotional testimony during a recent sermon about how he responded when his wife, Mary Abioye, was initially diagnosed with HIV during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He recounted that when informed of the diagnosis, his first reaction was one of firm spiritual rejection of the report. According to him, “During COVID, they said my wife had HIV. I said, ‘No, not in this body.’” He then requested further testing and declared that the sickness would not remain.
Bishop Abioye emphasised that his faith overcame what seemed like a medical verdict. He asserted that doctors re-tested his wife and “couldn’t find anything there”. He taught that healing is not passive; rather one must actively confront illness with boldness, saying: “You don’t negotiate sickness to go; you crush it to go.”
The testimony has resonated widely and sparked discussion around faith-based responses to major health challenges. Some commentators have raised questions about the medical and scientific implications of such statements, and the balance between spiritual belief and medical advice. Nonetheless, Bishop Abioye’s message reflects his deep conviction that faith plays a vital role in facing crisis and uncertainty.
