Active electricity customers Nigeria 11.96 million
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) reports that the total number of active electricity customers in Nigeria rose to approximately 11.96 million in August 2025, up from around 11.89 million in July.
According to the regulator’s “Metering Factsheet for July and August 2025”, this data covers all eleven electricity distribution companies (DisCos) operating across the country. Of the total active customers, approximately 6.58 million were metered, representing a metering rate of about 55.01 %, up from 54.71 % in July.
NERC noted that 70,888 customers were newly metered in August, compared with 76,783 in July, reflecting continued efforts to reduce the metering gap in the power sector. Among the DisCos, some of the top performers in metering coverage include Eko Electricity Distribution Company (84.25 %), Ikeja Electric (84.83 %) and Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (73.92 %).
The increase in active customers and metering rate suggests that reforms and investments in customer management and billing transparency are making gradual progress across Nigeria’s electricity supply industry.
