Two people have died and dozens more were injured after a tourist coach crashed into a heavy truck near a beach resort town on Egypt’s Red Sea coast.

The collision happened early on the morning of November 11 2025, on the highway connecting Hurghada and Cairo, near the town of Ras Gharib, about 150-kilometres north of Hurghada.

Authorities say the coach was carrying foreign tourists when it smashed head-on into the truck. The driver of the coach and a Russian passenger were among the dead. At least 39 people were injured, including 27 Russians, 7 Finns, 2 Lithuanians and several Egyptians.

Emergency services responded swiftly and transported the injured to a hospital in Ras Gharib. Officials said the front of the bus was completely destroyed in the impact. Investigators from the local prosecutor’s office have opened a probe and are gathering CCTV footage, examining the scene and speaking with witnesses.

Preliminary reports suggest that driver fatigue, speed and poor visibility in the pre-dawn hours may have been contributing factors, though no official cause has been confirmed.

The accident highlights ongoing safety concerns on Egypt’s heavily-used tourist road networks, particularly those linking major resort towns with inland sites. Authorities have in past years pledged upgrades and stricter enforcement of transport regulations.
