Nigeria vs DR Congo 2026 WCQ Playoff Final
The path for the Nigeria national football team (“Super Eagles”) and the DR Congo national football team to the final of the African playoff for the 2026 FIFA World Cup (hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States) has been secured through separate semi-final victories.
Nigeria secured their place in the final by defeating Gabon national football team 4-1 after extra time in Rabat. A late equaliser by Gabon forced extra time, but Nigeria pulled clear through goals by Victor Osimhen (a brace), Chidera Ejuke and Akor Adams.
Meanwhile, DR Congo edged out Cameroon national football team 1-0 via a dramatic late goal by Chancel Mbemba in stoppage time to book their place in the final.
The final between Nigeria and DR Congo is scheduled for Sunday, 16 November 2025 in Rabat, Morocco. The winner of this match will advance to the inter-confederation playoff in March 2026, where two remaining spots for the expanded 48-team World Cup will be decided.
This final offers Nigeria the chance to reach their seventh World Cup and DR Congo the opportunity to qualify for only their second after their appearance when they were known as Zaire in 1974.
