Massive Russian attack on Kyiv November 2025
A severe assault by Russian forces struck the Ukrainian capital Kyiv in the early hours of Friday, leaving multiple casualties and widespread damage. According to Ukrainian officials, the attack involved around 430 drones and 18 missiles, which targeted both residential areas and critical infrastructure across nearly every district of the city.
The bombardment inflicted at least six deaths in Kyiv and injured around 35 people, including children and a pregnant woman. Flames rose over high-rise apartments as drones and missiles penetrated air-defences, causing fires, structural damage, and disruptions to power, heating and water services.
Officials reported that the districts of Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi and Podilskyi suffered heavy hits, with debris peppering apartment courtyards and falling on cars and educational facilities. The assault also affected other regions of Ukraine, including the southern port city of Odesa and the northeastern city of Kharkiv, where casualties and infrastructure damage were reported.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strike as “deliberately calculated” to inflict maximum harm on both people and civilian infrastructure. He urged international partners to enforce stronger sanctions on Russia and accelerate delivery of air-defence systems. The Russian Ministry of Defence said the assault targeted energy facilities and weapon-production sites, claiming the attack was a response to Ukrainian strikes inside Russia.
Rescue services in Kyiv faced major challenges as multiple fires broke out simultaneously and damaged heating networks raised the risk of outages ahead of winter. Amid the barrage, a debris fragment from a missile strike hit the Azerbaijani embassy in Kyiv, raising diplomatic concerns.
This latest attack indicates a marked escalation in targeting civilian and infrastructure-heavy regions of Ukraine as winter approaches. With widespread damage to high-rise residential buildings, vital heating systems and power supplies, the humanitarian and security situation in Kyiv remains deeply troubling.
