Joe Lewis pardon Trump November 2025
A major development emerged on 13 November 2025 when former U.S. President Donald Trump granted a full pardon to British billionaire Joe Lewis. Lewis, aged 88, had pleaded guilty in January 2024 to conspiracy and securities fraud for providing non-public corporate information to associates and friends.
The case centered on Lewis sharing confidential board-level intelligence between approximately 2019 and 2021, allowing others to trade stocks in companies such as Mirati Therapeutics and BCTG Acquisition before merger announcements. He had been fined US$5 million and placed on three years’ probation in April 2024.
According to a White House official, the pardon was granted in part so Lewis could travel to the United States for medical treatment and to visit grandchildren and great-grandchildren without the constraints of his prior sentencing.
Lewis is known for his extensive business interests and formerly held majority control of the English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur through his family trust. He transferred operational control of the club in 2022.
Despite the pardon, the penalties already imposed on Lewis and his company remain in force, and there are no indications that his relationship with Tottenham Hotspur or his business holdings will change as a result of the clemency.
This pardon adds to a pattern of clemency actions by Trump in his second term, particularly involving high-profile individuals from the sports and finance sectors.
