Kris Boyd Jets player shot in Manhattan
New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd, 29, is in critical but stable condition after being shot in the abdomen early Sunday morning in Manhattan. The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. outside the Sei Less restaurant in Midtown, according to law enforcement sources.
Police say the shooting followed a verbal dispute that escalated into violence. Two shots were reportedly fired, and one bullet struck Boyd, lodging in or near his lung, according to NBC New York. He was rushed by EMS to Bellevue Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
No arrests have been made so far, and the NYPD says the investigation is ongoing. According to reports, the suspected shooter fled the scene in a dark BMW X8 SUV. Some sources also mention another vehicle a silver Mercedes-Maybach seen leaving the area.
The Jets issued a brief statement acknowledging the incident: “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.”
Team members have rallied around Boyd. Teammates like Jermaine Johnson and Harrison Phillips have publicly asked for prayers, calling on fans to support him and his family during this difficult time.
Boyd’s journey to this point has been challenging. He signed with the Jets earlier this year on a one-year deal, but he has not played this season after being placed on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury sustained in the preseason. Before joining the Jets, he played for the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, and Houston Texans.
Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage from around the restaurant and nearby buildings to piece together exactly what happened and who was responsible for the shooting.
