Tinubu orders rescue of abducted Kebbi schoolgirls
In a shocking attack, 25 schoolgirls were abducted from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, after gunmen stormed the boarding school around 4 a.m. on Monday. During the raid, the school’s vice principal, Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku, was killed, and a security guard was injured.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has responded swiftly to the crisis. He has directed security and intelligence agencies to “immediately locate, rescue, and safely return” the abducted students, according to a statement from the Federal Government. The President also condemned the attack, calling it “reprehensible,” and reiterated that protecting schoolchildren is a serious responsibility for his administration.
A large-scale manhunt has been launched. Police tactical units, supported by military personnel and local vigilantes, are combing nearby forests and escape routes to find and free the girls. Kebbi State’s Commissioner of Police, Bello M. Sani, described the attack as “dastardly” and urged local residents to remain calm and support security operations.
The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, also strongly condemned the attack. He confirmed that the President has instructed the full deployment of the state’s security apparatus to rescue the students and bring those responsible to justice.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, echoed the urgency. He said the federal government is fully committed to the mission, and that security agencies are working “around the clock” to ensure the safe return of the girls.
As the rescue operation intensifies, families and communities remain deeply anxious, while the government reaffirms its resolve not to relent until all the girls are safely back home.
