Rapper Tory Lanez has been fined $20,000 after being found in contempt of court in connection with Megan Thee Stallion’s defamation lawsuit.

A U.S. magistrate judge ruled that Lanez’s behavior during a deposition on November 14 when he refused to answer basic questions about his communications with blogger Milagro Gramz amounted to obstruction. He allegedly cut the deposition short and declined to respond to key queries about how he knew Gramz and whether he had sent her direct messages.

When warned by the court that misbehaviour could lead to serious penalties, including jail time, Lanez reportedly replied, “Whatever the fines are, I’ll pay them. I’m a millionaire. I don’t care.”

His lawyer, Crystal Morgan, was also held in contempt and fined $5,000 for coaching and objecting to relevant questions during the deposition.

The judge ordered that the jury in Megan’s defamation trial be informed of Lanez’s refusal to cooperate during his deposition a move that could affect how the case is perceived.
