Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka strongly criticized Trump’s comments and military rhetoric. He called it “madness” for a foreign leader to threaten to “help … guns a-blazing” without a clear understanding of Nigeria’s real problems.

Soyinka argued that Trump’s approach shows “poor, almost non-existent analysis” of Nigeria’s security crisis. He warned that helping a country with violence must come with respect and a more thoughtful strategy.

He added: “Because I’m ill or have difficulties does not mean I should accept aid from a mad man.” Soyinka emphasized that cooperation can’t be built on threats or condescension, especially on sensitive issues like religious violence.

Soyinka also spoke out more broadly about religious dynamics in Nigeria. He said that the conflict is not simply a Christian-Muslim war, but rather a struggle against extremist groups who exploit religion for political ends.
