Obesere attacked at Ondo burial ceremony
Fuji music star Abass Akande “Obesere” was attacked by suspected thugs during a burial ceremony in Okitipupa Local Government Area, Ondo State, on Friday, sparking chaos and fear, according to multiple eyewitnesses.
The attack reportedly began just as Obesere and his band were about to perform at the Government Field venue. Witnesses said a group of men suddenly stormed the site, physically assaulted members of his crew, and destroyed expensive musical equipment.
According to one guest, Bosede Akinyemi, the violence was unprovoked and targeted. She said the attackers “swamped on some of Obesere’s boys” and damaged instruments “worth millions of naira.”
In the melee, at least one band member was stabbed while trying to repel the attackers.
Local authorities have condemned the incident. Hon. Andrew Ogunsakin, Chairman of Okitipupa LGA, called the assault “unfortunate and unacceptable” and promised his administration would take steps to prevent future occurrences. He also said he would personally reach out to Obesere to convey regret and repair the relationship.
As of now, Obesere himself has not publicly responded to the attack.
