Borno governor declares fast and prayer day over Boko Haram resurgence

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has declared Monday, 24 November 2025 a statewide day of fasting and prayer, citing a worrying resurgence of Boko Haram and related insecurity in the North-East.

In a live broadcast, Zulum spoke to the people not only as governor but “as a fellow citizen,” acknowledging the deep anxieties caused by renewed attacks in recent months. He stressed that, despite some relative peace in the past two years, fresh militant activity threatens lives, livelihoods, and the social fabric of Borno.

Zulum asked all residents regardless of religious belief to join in the act of fasting and praying for divine protection, peace, and healing. He described this spiritual exercise not just as a personal act, but as a collective expression of hope, unity, and shared resilience.

Beyond the spiritual call, he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security in the state. He emphasized ongoing collaboration with federal authorities and security agencies to improve intelligence gathering, support frontline personnel, and build stronger community-based vigilance systems.

The governor also thanked citizens for their past support and resilience. He called on displaced people to remain hopeful, promising that returning to stable communities remains a top priority.
