Atiku reacts to schoolgirls release and terrorists control

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said that the recent release of abducted schoolgirls should not be celebrated as a true victory against insecurity in Nigeria. He warned that terrorists are increasingly operating like an alternative government in some parts of the country, imposing their control and authority over helpless communities.

Atiku stated that while the freedom of the schoolgirls is a relief to their families and the nation, it does not change the deeper crisis of insecurity. He noted that armed groups still move freely, carry out attacks, collect levies, and dictate life in many rural areas. According to him, this shows a dangerous collapse of effective governance in affected regions.

The former vice president stressed that repeated abductions and delayed responses have weakened public confidence in the ability of the state to protect citizens. He added that communities now live in fear, with many schools closed and economic activities disrupted due to constant threats from armed groups.

Atiku called for urgent and decisive action, saying that Nigeria must regain full control of its territories. He urged the federal government to move beyond reactive measures and adopt a strong, coordinated strategy to dismantle all terrorist networks across the country.
