Domestic worker arrested for stealing employer’s car in Lagos
A domestic worker has been arrested along the Minna–Abuja road after allegedly stealing her employer’s car in Lagos and attempting to flee with it. The suspect was intercepted by security operatives during a routine stop after a report about the stolen vehicle was circulated to patrol teams across states.
Police sources said the employer had reported the vehicle missing after discovering that the domestic worker had disappeared from the house together with the car. Acting on the information, security personnel mounted surveillance along major exit routes from Lagos, which led to the arrest along the busy Minna–Abuja highway.
On interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to taking the vehicle without permission. The stolen car was recovered in good condition and taken into police custody. Investigators are now working to determine whether the suspect acted alone or with the support of an external network.
The employer has expressed relief over the recovery of the vehicle, while police assured the public that the suspect will be charged to court after investigations are concluded. Authorities also urged residents to conduct proper background checks before employing domestic workers to reduce the risk of similar incidents.
This arrest has renewed public attention on cases of theft involving trusted household staff and the importance of swift communication with security agencies when such incidents occur.
