Borno spent N100bn on security
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has disclosed that the state government spent about N100 billion on security within the current year as part of efforts to combat insurgency and restore peace. The governor made this known while reviewing the security situation and the financial burden placed on the state by years of conflict.
Governor Zulum explained that a large portion of the state’s resources continues to be directed toward supporting security agencies, rebuilding destroyed communities, and protecting lives and property. He said the spending covers logistics, security operations, support for displaced persons, and the reconstruction of critical infrastructure damaged by insurgent attacks.
He noted that despite the heavy security expenditure, Borno remains committed to development in education, health, and economic recovery. According to him, the goal is not only to defeat insurgency but also to create sustainable conditions that prevent a return to violence. He added that peace cannot be sustained without addressing poverty, unemployment, and social dislocation.
The governor also commended the military and other security agencies for their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. He called for continued support from the federal government and international partners to ensure that security gains are sustained and communities fully stabilized.
The disclosure has drawn public attention to the enormous cost of insecurity on state finances and development. Many residents say the figure highlights the urgent need for lasting peace so that public funds can be redirected toward growth and social services.
