Tacha reacts to blood transfusion refusal for cancer treatment
Reality TV star Tacha has reacted strongly after a popular street vendor who is also a Jehovah’s Witness reportedly refused a blood transfusion required for cancer treatment, despite funds being raised by the public to support medical care. The development has sparked intense debate across social media over personal belief, medical ethics, and the limits of public intervention in private health decisions.
The vendor had reportedly been diagnosed with cancer and needed a blood transfusion as part of urgent treatment. Following public appeals, well-meaning Nigerians donated funds to help cover medical costs. However, after the money was raised, it was disclosed that the patient declined the blood transfusion on religious grounds, in line with the doctrines of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Reacting to the development, Tacha expressed frustration and disbelief at the decision, stating that if someone insists on dying based on personal conviction, the person should be allowed to make that choice. Her comment triggered mixed reactions online, with many supporting her blunt view, while others defended the vendor’s right to religious freedom and bodily autonomy.
Supporters of the vendor argued that faith-based decisions should be respected, even in life-threatening situations. They stressed that accepting or refusing medical procedures remains a personal right, regardless of public donations. Others countered that it was unfair to accept public funds and then refuse a key part of the life-saving treatment.
The incident has reopened broader conversations in Nigeria about the balance between religious belief and modern medical care, especially in emergency situations. It has also raised questions about how donations should be handled when treatment decisions change after funds are mobilized.
