Plateau police arrest fake motorcyclists
The police in Plateau State have arrested 15 suspected criminals who were allegedly disguising themselves as commercial motorcyclists to carry out illegal activities across different parts of the state. The arrests followed sustained surveillance and intelligence-led operations by security operatives targeting criminal hideouts and hotspots.
According to police authorities, the suspects were apprehended during coordinated raids in areas known for frequent robbery, kidnapping, and violent attacks. The suspects reportedly operated under the guise of transporting passengers on motorcycles while using the opportunity to monitor victims and move weapons undetected. Several dangerous items and exhibits were recovered during the operation.
The Plateau State Police Command confirmed that preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects are linked to a network involved in armed robbery and other criminal activities. Officers stated that the outcome of the operation was part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and restore public confidence in road safety and community security.
Residents of affected areas have expressed relief over the arrests, noting that motorcycle-related crimes had become a major source of fear for commuters. Many residents praised the police for acting swiftly and urged security agencies to sustain the momentum to prevent a resurgence of such criminal tactics.
The police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that all suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of inquiries. The command also advised commercial motorcycle operators to register properly with recognized unions and cooperate with security agencies to prevent criminals from infiltrating their ranks.
