Two teenagers drown Kano stream
The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed that two teenage boys drowned while swimming in a stream located in the Hayin Yawa Gada area of Tudun Wada, Kano State. According to the agency’s statement, the tragedy took place on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at around 2:00 p.m.
The victims have been identified as Habu Sani and Haruna Isah, both approximately 15 years old. A Hisbah official alerted the Tudun Wada branch of the Fire Service, which dispatched its emergency response team to the site. On arrival, the rescuers found the boys unconscious in the water. They were promptly pulled out and transported for first aid, but they could not be revived and were confirmed dead.
The bodies were handed over to Inspector Usaini Iliya of the Tudun Wada Police Division for further investigation. In a separate incident unrelated to the drowning, the Fire Service also retrieved an unidentified body from a well in the Jaba Masaka, Shago Tara area of Kano. That body had reportedly been in the well for about four days before discovery, and the remains were handed over to the area’s ward head for handling.
The Director of the Kano Fire Service, Sani Anas, expressed deep concern over the recurring drowning incidents in the state. He urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to monitor children more closely and to discourage them from swimming in streams, ponds, or any places with stagnant or deep water, especially during the rainy season.
