Ikoyi apartment robbery strips vehicle parts
Robbers have reportedly raided an apartment complex in Ikoyi, Lagos, vandalising vehicles and carting away vital parts from the residents’ cars, in a brazen criminal operation that was captured in a video circulating online. The incident occurred on Olu Holloway Road, a residential area in the affluent district, where residents returned to find their parked cars stripped of key components after the attackers invaded the compound. According to eyewitness accounts shared by businessman Isaac Fayose, the robbers tied up the security guard at gunpoint before moving on to dismantle parts from at least four vehicles, including Toyota Prados, in the early hours of the morning. The footage shared on social media shows extensive damage to the vehicles and highlights the daring nature of the crime in a location that is normally seen as well secured. Residents lamented that there were no CCTV or security cameras installed to monitor the premises, a factor they believe made it easier for the criminals to operate unnoticed and strike without immediate detection. The attack has reignited concerns about rising incidents of vehicle vandalism and parts theft in Lagos, where criminals have increasingly targeted parked cars, stealing valuable components rather than entire vehicles as older patterns of car theft evolve. Citizens have been urged to heighten vigilance, install proper surveillance systems, and work closely with local security to deter similar attacks in the future.
