NDLEA seizes cannabis in Edo
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has seized a total of 457 kilograms of cannabis and arrested a suspected trafficker during an operation in Edo State. The agency confirmed that the arrest followed credible intelligence that led officers to the suspect and the large consignment of illicit drugs.
According to NDLEA officials, the cannabis was recovered during a targeted raid carried out by operatives acting on surveillance reports. The drugs were reportedly packed and ready for distribution to different locations, suggesting an organised trafficking network. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene without resistance and is currently undergoing interrogation.
The agency said the seizure represents a significant blow to drug supply chains operating within and beyond Edo State. NDLEA noted that cannabis trafficking continues to pose serious risks to public health and security, particularly among young people. Officials stressed that sustained operations are being carried out nationwide to disrupt drug networks and reduce availability of illegal substances.
NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying enforcement, intelligence gathering, and prosecution of drug offenders. The agency also urged members of the public to provide useful information that can help security agencies combat drug trafficking and related crimes across the country.
