Fubara reveals Rivers State funds after emergency rule
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has said he met over N600 billion in the state’s coffers after the period of emergency rule, describing the disclosure as part of efforts to promote transparency and rebuild public trust. The governor made the statement while speaking on the financial position he inherited and the steps being taken to stabilise governance in the state.
Fubara explained that the funds were spread across different accounts and reflected revenues accrued before the end of the emergency administration. He noted that understanding the true financial standing of the state was crucial for planning, accountability, and effective delivery of public services. According to him, the availability of funds does not remove the need for prudence, as commitments and liabilities must also be carefully reviewed.
The governor said his administration is focused on responsible management of public resources, with emphasis on infrastructure, workers’ welfare, and social services. He added that proper audits and verification processes are ongoing to ensure that all figures are accurate and that spending aligns with the interests of Rivers residents.
His comments have generated public discussion, with many residents calling for sustained transparency and regular updates on how state funds are utilised. Analysts say the disclosure highlights the importance of clear financial handovers during political transitions and could shape public expectations around accountability in Rivers State.
