Allegations of cabals in Tinubu government
A Nigerian lawyer and political commentator has alleged that powerful cabals are deeply entrenched within the current administration, naming President Bola Tinubu, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and the First Lady as leaders of different power blocs within government. The allegation was made during a recent public interview where the lawyer, who is also known as the author of a book on former President Muhammadu Buhari, spoke critically about Nigeria’s political structure and decision-making process.
According to him, governance in Nigeria is no longer driven by transparent institutions but by influential groups operating behind the scenes. He claimed that these cabals wield enormous control over appointments, policy direction, and access to power, often overriding democratic processes and sidelining public interest. He argued that such arrangements weaken accountability and concentrate authority in the hands of a few individuals.
The lawyer further alleged that these power blocs operate independently while competing for influence, creating internal tensions that affect national governance. He warned that the dominance of cabals could undermine reforms and deepen public distrust in government, especially at a time when Nigerians are demanding accountability, economic relief, and stronger leadership.
While no official response has been issued by the individuals mentioned, the comments have sparked debate across political circles, with supporters and critics offering sharply different reactions. Analysts say the allegations reflect broader concerns about elite influence in Nigerian politics, although such claims often remain difficult to prove.
The development adds to ongoing national conversations about transparency, power concentration, and the need for institutional strength in Nigeria’s democratic system.
