Jake Paul undergoes surgery after broken jaw from Anthony Joshua knockout
Jake Paul has undergone surgery for a broken jaw after suffering a brutal knockout loss to heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua in their highly publicised fight in Miami. Paul’s injury was confirmed after the fight ended in the sixth round, when a powerful right-hand punch from Joshua fractured his jaw in two places, forcing the American influencer-turned-boxer to be rushed to University of Miami Hospital for treatment.
In the operating theatre, surgeons repaired Paul’s double-broken jaw, inserting titanium plates on each side of his face and removing some damaged teeth to stabilise the fractures and support healing. Paul later shared on social media that the surgery “went smooth” but that he was experiencing significant pain and stiffness, and would be restricted to a liquid diet for at least seven days as he begins his recovery.
The injury came after Paul was knocked down multiple times before the final knockout, an outcome that left him with his second professional loss and highlighted the risks he faced stepping into the ring against a seasoned former heavyweight champion. Paul has said he plans to heal fully and eventually return to competition, possibly at cruiserweight, even as he takes time off to recover from the extensive facial injuries.
