Diplomatic spat with US largely resolved
The Federal Government of Nigeria has said the recent diplomatic disagreement with the United States has been largely resolved, following high-level engagements between officials of both countries. The government explained that discussions were held through diplomatic channels to address concerns raised by the U.S., leading to a clearer understanding and improved cooperation between both sides.
According to the FG, the issues that sparked the tension were mainly administrative and policy-related, and did not represent a breakdown in the long-standing relationship between Nigeria and the United States. Officials stressed that Nigeria remains committed to maintaining strong diplomatic, economic and security ties with Washington, describing the relationship as strategic and mutually beneficial.
The government added that ongoing dialogue helped to correct misconceptions and reaffirm shared interests, particularly in areas such as trade, security cooperation, migration management and regional stability. Nigerian authorities said engagements are continuing to ensure smoother relations and to prevent similar misunderstandings in the future.
The statement from the FG comes amid public concern over the impact of the diplomatic row on Nigerians, especially regarding visas, travel and bilateral cooperation. Officials reassured citizens that relations between both countries remain stable and that normal diplomatic operations are continuing as talks progress.
