Gombe journalists die in fatal auto crash
A tragic road accident in Gombe State has claimed the lives of several journalists and left others injured, plunging the media community into deep grief. On Monday evening, a bus belonging to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and carrying its members was involved in a fatal crash along the Yola–Kumo road as the group was returning from a wedding ceremony in the Gombe South Senatorial District. The incident resulted in the confirmed deaths of seven journalists, including staff of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and other media workers who were part of the delegation. Four other occupants of the bus were seriously injured and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, while emergency responders worked at the scene to manage the aftermath. The governor of Gombe State expressed overwhelming grief at the loss, describing the incident as a devastating blow to the state’s media and public service community, and extended condolences to the families and colleagues of the deceased.
