
Mexico floods kill over 40 after storms Priscilla and Raymond
Mexico is reeling from heavy rain, floods, and deadly landslides caused by the remnants of Tropical Storms Priscilla and Raymond. The death toll has reached 44 people according to the Mexican government. Torrential rains and flooding have struck across five states: Veracruz, Hidalgo, Puebla, Queretaro and San Luis PotosÃ.
In Veracruz, authorities reported 18 deaths. In Hidalgo, 16 people were killed, and in Puebla 9 deaths. One person, a child, died in Queretaro in a landslide. Rivers overflowed, homes were submerged in mud, and numerous towns were cut off from help. More than 139 towns are reported to be affected by flooding, with rescue and relief teams, including the military, conducting evacuations via life rafts and moving supplies. President Claudia Sheinbaum has activated emergency coordination, calling on federal and state authorities to manage rescue, relief, and reconstruction efforts.
Thousands of homes and infrastructure have been damaged. Many areas are without electricity, roads are destroyed, and access to basic services is severely disrupted.
