Delta State police rescue abducted victims arrest cultist
Police in Delta State have reported significant operational successes against violent crime, including the rescue of abducted victims and the arrest of a suspected cultist in coordinated security efforts across the region. The operations underscore ongoing efforts by the Delta State Police Command to protect lives and restore public safety amid rising concerns over kidnappings and cult-related violence.
According to police statements, on February 2, 2026, five armed men suspected to be kidnappers blocked the Ewu–Ajekuta Road and forcefully abducted four occupants of a Toyota Sienna vehicle. Upon receiving a distress report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Otu-Jeremi swiftly mobilised operatives, working with sister security agencies and vigilant members of the Ewu community to pursue the suspects. Their sustained efforts led to the successful rescue of all four victims, who were promptly taken to a hospital for medical attention. At the scene, two expended pieces of 7.5mm ammunition were recovered, and a bush combing and manhunt operation was launched to apprehend the fleeing kidnappers.
In a separate operation on February 3, 2026, officers from the Ibusa Division acted on credible intelligence to raid a suspected cult meeting at Anioma Garden, Ugboli Quarters, Ibusa. During the raid, one suspect identified as Michael Ayauze was arrested. Preliminary investigations revealed that he is a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, a group often linked to cult-related violence. A search of the suspect’s possession led to the recovery of an English Beretta pistol, one live round of ammunition, and assorted charms. Other suspected members fled upon sighting the police, and efforts to track and arrest them are ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Aina Adesola, reiterated the command’s commitment to dealing decisively with kidnapping, cultism, and all forms of violent criminality, urging the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to support law enforcement efforts.
