DSS Warns Public About Former Officers Impersonating Its Staff to Defraud Citizens
The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a stern warning to Nigerians regarding activities by certain former officers who have been dismissed from the agency. In a recent statement, the DSS identified two individuals—Victor Onyedikachi Godwin and Barry Donald—who are accused of using the name and reputation of the Service to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
According to the DSS, these dismissed officers are not associated with the agency in any way and are misrepresenting themselves as active operatives. The Service described their actions as “unscrupulous” and urged citizens to be wary of anyone claiming to represent the DSS outside its official communication channels.
The DSS advised the public to refrain from engaging in any transactions or communication with the said individuals. It further encouraged Nigerians to verify the identity of anyone purporting to be a DSS agent by using the Service’s official telephone number, 09088373515, or its verified email address.
This alert comes amid concern over growing reports of impersonation and fraudulent schemes leveraging the reputations of security agencies. DSS has also cautioned that anyone found impersonating the agency or misleading citizens under its name will be dealt with according to the law.
