Sarz Ozedikus DJ Kaywise exploitation claims
Nigerian music producers Sarz and Ozedikus, alongside popular disc jockey DJ Kaywise, have spoken out about alleged exploitation by some musicians within the entertainment industry. The trio shared their concerns during a recent discussion on creative rights and fair compensation.
Sarz explained that producers often invest significant time, creativity and resources into crafting hit records, yet do not always receive adequate recognition or financial reward. He said there have been instances where agreements were not properly honored, leaving producers shortchanged despite contributing to successful projects.
Ozedikus echoed similar concerns, stating that many producers struggle with contract transparency and royalty distribution. According to him, informal arrangements and verbal agreements sometimes create misunderstandings that later result in disputes. He stressed the need for clear documentation and better legal protection for music creators.
DJ Kaywise also addressed the issue from a different angle, noting that disc jockeys and promoters sometimes face exploitation when promised payments are delayed or renegotiated after performances. He urged industry stakeholders to respect professional commitments and uphold ethical standards.
The revelations have reignited conversations about intellectual property rights and fair treatment in Nigeria’s growing music industry. Analysts say as Afrobeats continues to gain global recognition, stronger regulatory frameworks and industry-wide standards will be essential to protect producers, DJs and other behind-the-scenes contributors.
Industry observers believe open dialogue is a positive step toward reform. They argue that collaboration between artists, producers and managers must be built on trust, transparency and mutual respect to sustain long-term growth in the sector.
