Tunji Disu orders tighter security over Middle East tensions
The Acting Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, has directed Commissioners of Police across the country to tighten security measures in response to rising tensions in the Middle East. The order is aimed at preventing any potential spillover effects that could threaten public safety in Nigeria.
According to a statement from the Nigeria Police Force headquarters, Disu instructed CPs to enhance intelligence gathering, increase patrols around critical infrastructure and strengthen security at places of worship, foreign missions and other sensitive locations. The directive follows heightened global alertness linked to recent geopolitical developments in the Middle East.
The Acting IGP emphasized the need for vigilance and professionalism among officers. He urged state commands to work closely with other security agencies to monitor any suspicious activities and ensure rapid response to potential threats. He also called for calm among citizens, assuring the public that proactive measures are being implemented to maintain peace and order.
Security analysts say that international crises often prompt precautionary actions by national security institutions. They note that Nigeria’s diverse population and diplomatic ties require careful monitoring of global events to prevent unrest or retaliatory actions by extremist elements.
Police authorities reiterated that the security tightening is preventive and not in response to any immediate threat within the country. They advised residents to remain law-abiding and report suspicious movements to the nearest police station.
The development underscores Nigeria’s broader strategy of strengthening internal security amid evolving global challenges. Officials say continued coordination and intelligence sharing will remain key in safeguarding national stability.
