Tinubu condemns Boko Haram attack in Borno
Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned a recent attack by insurgents in Borno State, describing the incident as a cowardly act against innocent citizens and a threat to national security. The President also commended the swift response of the military following the attack.
According to security reports, the attack was carried out by members of the extremist group Boko Haram in parts of Borno State, an area that has experienced years of insurgency in Nigeria’s northeast region. The assault reportedly targeted local communities and security positions, causing panic among residents and raising fresh concerns about safety in the region.
In response, the Nigerian Air Force launched a series of coordinated airstrikes against terrorist hideouts believed to be used by the insurgents. Military sources confirmed that the air operations resulted in the killing of at least 50 suspected terrorists and the destruction of several camps used by the militant group.
President Tinubu praised the professionalism and bravery of the armed forces, emphasizing that the government remains fully committed to defeating terrorism and restoring lasting peace in the northeast. He assured citizens that security agencies would continue to intensify operations to eliminate remaining insurgent threats across the region.
The President also extended his condolences to families affected by the attack and directed relevant authorities to provide support to victims and communities impacted by the violence. He stressed the importance of cooperation between security agencies, local leaders, and residents in the ongoing fight against insurgency.
Borno State has been at the center of the Boko Haram conflict for over a decade, with military operations continuing to target insurgent bases in remote areas and along border regions. Authorities say sustained military pressure has weakened the group, though occasional attacks still occur.
