Evans re-arraigned for murder of police officers in Lagos

Convicted kidnapper Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, commonly known as Evans, has been re-arraigned by the Lagos State Government over allegations of murdering two police officers. On Monday, he appeared before Justice A. O. Ogala at the Lagos High Court, Ikeja, alongside co-defendant Joseph Ikenna Emeka, facing a fresh five-count charge that includes murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

The prosecution alleges that on the night of August 27, 2013, around 10 p.m., Evans and Emeka killed officers Peter Nweke and Chijioke Ngozi in the Festac Town area of Lagos. Another charge involves the attempted kidnapping of Vincent Obianodo, chairman of Young Shall Grow Motors.

When the charges were read out, both Evans and his co-defendant pleaded not guilty. They remain in custody at Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison.

The case was transferred from Justice Adenike Coker to Justice Ogala. The court ordered a fresh arraignment despite earlier plea bargain applications filed before the former judge. Justice Ogala adjourned proceedings until November 19, 2025, for hearing and issuance of witness summons.

This re-arraignment is part of multiple legal proceedings against Evans, who is already serving life imprisonment in other convictions related to kidnapping.
