Wike says PDP will negotiate from position of strength
Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has declared that his political camp remains firmly in control within the Peoples Democratic Party, stating that any negotiations to resolve the party’s ongoing crisis will be approached from a position of strength.
Wike made the remarks while addressing supporters and party stakeholders amid the continuing internal disagreements within the PDP. The former governor of Rivers State said his faction holds significant influence within the party and will not accept arrangements that undermine their political standing. According to him, efforts to restore unity in the party must recognize the role and strength of his political allies.
The PDP has faced internal tensions since the aftermath of recent elections, with disagreements among key leaders over party leadership, decision-making, and political strategy. Wike has been one of the most vocal figures in the disputes, often calling for reforms and greater recognition of different power blocs within the party.
Speaking on the possibility of reconciliation, Wike emphasized that dialogue remains possible but must be conducted on fair terms. He said negotiations would only succeed if they reflect the political reality within the party and respect the influence of all major stakeholders.
Political observers say the statement highlights the depth of divisions within the PDP and the challenges the party faces in rebuilding unity ahead of future elections. Analysts believe that any lasting resolution will require compromise among the party’s major leaders and factions.
