Tambuwal defects from PDP to ADC
Former governor of Sokoto State and senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party and officially defected to the African Democratic Congress. The move comes amid the ongoing internal crisis that has continued to affect the PDP at both national and state levels.
Tambuwal announced his decision after consultations with political associates and supporters, citing persistent disagreements and unresolved leadership issues within the party. He said the continued internal tensions in the PDP made it difficult for him to pursue his political objectives and contribute effectively to the party’s future direction.
The former governor explained that his decision to join the African Democratic Congress was influenced by the party’s political platform and its commitment to promoting inclusive governance and democratic participation. He expressed confidence that the ADC would provide a better environment for him and his supporters to advance their political goals.
Tambuwal’s defection represents a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly in Sokoto State where he remains a major political figure. Analysts say the move could influence political alignments in the state and potentially affect the balance of power among major political parties ahead of future elections.
The PDP has been experiencing internal disputes involving several influential members in recent months. Political observers believe that Tambuwal’s departure may intensify discussions about party unity and leadership reforms within the opposition party.
