China ready to “fight to the end” in U.S. trade war
China has issued a strong warning that it will “fight to the end” in its escalating trade war with the United States, amid Washington’s threats of new, sweeping tariffs. This clash marks a renewed heightening of tensions between the two economic superpowers.
A spokesperson from China’s Commerce Ministry reaffirmed Beijing’s position after U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to impose a 100 percent tariff on all imports from China. China views this move as an aggressive escalation following its recent export controls on rare earth materials, which are critical for many high-tech and defense supply chains.
China’s stance is clear: while it prefers negotiation and diplomacy, it will respond forcefully if the U.S. continues what China describes as unilateral or coercive trade actions. Officials warned that China’s countermeasures will be aimed at protecting its legitimate rights and interests, and preserving stability in global trade. At the same time, China has kept open the door for talks—insisting, however, that any resolution must be founded on equality, mutual respect, and fairness.
Analysts say this tough posture could lead to broader economic and geopolitical consequences. Escalating tariffs and retaliatory export controls may further disrupt global supply chains, increase costs for businesses and consumers, and strain economic growth. Some companies dependent on rare earths and other Chinese exports are already forecasting supply disruptions.
