Court Approval Needed for El-Rufai’s Burial Trip, Says Deji Adeyanju
A Nigerian lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has stated that any decision by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to allow former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to attend his mother’s burial should be supported by a valid court order.
Adeyanju made this position clear while reacting to reports that the anti-corruption agency might grant El-Rufai permission to travel for the burial. He stressed that such a move must strictly follow legal procedures, especially if there are existing restrictions tied to investigations or legal proceedings involving the former governor.
He explained that law enforcement agencies do not have the sole authority to override judicial conditions, particularly in cases where a suspect or person of interest is bound by court-imposed limitations.
