Delta Police Intensify Crackdown, Dismantle Criminal Hideouts in Asaba
The Nigeria Police Force in Delta State has launched a major crackdown on criminal activities, targeting suspected hideouts and strengthening security operations across the state, particularly in Asaba.
The operation, described as a large-scale security sweep, involved widespread deployment of officers, coordinated raids, and increased patrols in key locations. Authorities said the move followed a review of the security situation and aligns with directives to enhance proactive policing nationwide.
Police spokesperson Bright Edafe confirmed that officers were deployed across multiple area commands, with stop-and-search operations mounted along major roads, entry points, and identified crime flashpoints. The exercise also included sustained day and night patrols and joint operations with other security agencies.
As part of the crackdown, security operatives carried out targeted raids in communities known for criminal activities, including kidnapping and armed robbery. Areas affected include Owa-Oyibu, Ogwashi-Uku, Okpanam, Ashaka, Ughelli North axis, and other border communities.
A major highlight of the operation was the clearance of criminal hideouts in Asaba, where tactical teams dismantled makeshift camps and shanties believed to be used by suspects. The exercise focused on the Okpanam bush axis and surrounding areas, which authorities identified as key locations for criminal activities.
Police also noted that the operation targeted various criminal elements, including suspected members of outlawed groups, while serving as a confidence-building measure to reassure residents, farmers, and business owners of improved security.
The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, emphasized that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property. He added that intelligence-led raids and stakeholder engagement would continue to strengthen community safety.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, as authorities pledged that the crackdown would be sustained and extended to other parts of the state.
