El-Rufai’s Bail Hearing Adjourned to June by Kaduna Court
The bail hearing of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has been adjourned to the first week of June by the Kaduna State High Court, extending his legal proceedings in an ongoing corruption case.
The decision was made on Tuesday by trial judge Justice Darius Khobo, who postponed the hearing after listening to arguments from both the prosecution and defence teams. Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission is prosecuting the case, which involves multiple allegations including fraud and abuse of office.
El-Rufai is currently facing a nine-count amended charge, and the court has ordered that he remain in ICPC custody pending the determination of his bail application.
His legal team has criticised the repeated adjournments, describing the delays as unnecessary and suggesting that the process may be influenced by political considerations. The prosecution, however, argued that bail could interfere with ongoing investigations and witness handling.
This latest postponement follows earlier sittings in which rulings were repeatedly shifted as the court reviewed fresh filings and amended charges. The matter will now continue in June, when the court is expected to deliver a ruling on the bail request.
The case remains one of the most closely watched political legal battles in Nigeria, drawing significant public and media attention.
